Fraternity Meeting
The next Fraternity meeting will be held on Friday 24 August at our usual venue, Marian Hall, St. Mathew's Church, Page, commencing at 8 pm. We welcome Fr Carl Schafer to be with us at this month's Fraternity. The meeting will start with the Eucharist. Fr Carl will talk about poverty in the life of (the) Secular Franciscans. We hope to be able to engage in a prayerful dialogue about this important aspect of our Franciscan vocation.
It is important to note that at our formation sessions we do not argue about the topic but rather share our insights and experiences as sisters and brothers, with love and respect for one another. Good arguments are healthy and needed at times but would be more appropriate at other occasions.
Fr Carl would like us to consider the following thought as a preparation for the meeting: By way of preparing ourselves, he suggests that we ask ourselves:
"If a person is interested in gospel poverty, not just theoretically but practically, how would this interest be reflected in that person's lifestyle?"
As this evening has been advertised in the Catholic Voice and we expect some guests to be with us, it would be good to bring a plate (preferably with something on it).
"Trusting in the Father, Christ chose for himself and his mother a poor and humble life, even though he valued created things attentively and lovingly. Let the Secular Franciscans seek a proper spirit of detachment from temporal goods by simplifying their material needs. Let them be mindful that according to the gospel they are stewards of the goods received for the benefit of God's children."
Rule 11 (Refer also to General Constitutions, Article 15).
Apologies Kevin has an important business to attend with his wife and Cec could not refuse an invitation to spend some time with his son in the warm weather of Queensland
